How to merge Apple Watch workouts
Updated October 1, 2026
“Merging” Apple Watch workouts can mean two different things, and which one you need depends on whether the workouts are still running or already saved:
- While you record: combine several activities into one workout on the watch. This is built into the Workout app.
- After the fact: show several finished workouts, such as a week of runs, together on one card. This is what Weave does, without touching your Health data.
Combine activities into one workout on Apple Watch
Apple calls this combining multiple workouts. You do it on the watch, while your first workout is still running:
- Open the Workout app on your Apple Watch and start your first workout, for example an outdoor run.
- When you’re ready for the next activity, say an outdoor ride, swipe right, tap New and choose the workout.
- When you’ve finished all your activities, swipe right, tap End, then End Workout.
- Scroll through the summary with the Digital Crown and tap Done to save it as one workout.
For a triathlon or a bike-to-run session, set up a Multisport workout before you start: in the Workout app, swipe to Multisport, add the swimming, cycling and running legs in order, name it and tap Create Workout. Your Apple Watch recognizes when you switch legs.
Both are decided while you record. Apple’s guide describes no way to join workouts that are already saved, so a run you stopped at a café and restarted afterwards stays two workouts in Fitness and Apple Health.
Merge finished Apple Watch workouts into one card
Sometimes you want your workouts kept as they are, but shown together: a week of commutes, a training block, a race weekend, the two halves of that interrupted run. Weave, an iPhone app for workout cards, merges them into one Recap card, an image to share. It only reads your workouts from Apple Health and never writes to it, so your workouts, rings and stats stay exactly as recorded.
- In Weave’s workout list, tap Merge at the top.
- Tap the workouts you want on the card. Once you’ve picked the first, only workouts of the same activity can be selected: runs with runs, rides with rides.
- Tap Merge 3 Workouts (the number follows your selection).
- Weave opens the card in the Recap template: total distance and time, average pace (or speed, for rides), a row for each workout and the routes drawn together. Up to five rows fit; more workouts show as “+ N more workouts”. Turn on Color Each Route to give every route its own color.
- Tap Export, then Share or Save to Photos. Share as Sticker gives you a version with a transparent background.
Merging is part of Weave Pro, a one-time purchase of $6.99, not a subscription. Pro also unlocks the Route First and Recap templates and vector routes, and removes the watermark. Weave is in beta; join the beta to try it.
What merging in Weave doesn’t do
- It doesn’t change Apple Health or Fitness. Your workouts stay separate there; the merge exists only on your card.
- It doesn’t mix activities. A run and a ride can’t share a card. For a mixed session, combine the activities on your watch while you record.
- It doesn’t need an account or Strava. The card is made on your iPhone, and your workout data never goes to us.
Which way to merge Apple Watch workouts?
- Before or during the workout: combine activities on the watch with New, or set up a Multisport workout.
- Already saved, same activity: merge them into one Recap card with Weave.
- Already saved, different activities: neither Apple’s guides nor Weave join these; share them as separate cards.
