How to share an Apple Watch workout on Instagram
Updated October 1, 2026
Your Apple Watch records the run, the ride or the lifting session, and your iPhone keeps it in the Fitness app and Apple Health. Getting it onto Instagram takes one extra step, because Instagram posts images and videos, not workouts. The sharing built into Fitness is Activity sharing: friends you invite see your rings and finished workouts inside Fitness. For a Story or a post, you need an image of the workout. Here are three ways to make one, from the quickest to the best-looking.
1. Screenshot the workout in the Fitness app
Free, built in, and done in a minute. The screenshot shows the Fitness app as it looks on your screen, so crop it to the part worth posting.
- Open the Fitness app on your iPhone, tap Summary, tap the Sessions area, then tap the workout.
- Take a screenshot: quickly press and release the side button and the volume up button together. On an iPhone with a Home button, press the Home button and the side button.
- If a full-screen preview opens, drag the crop handles, then tap Done › Save to Photos. If a small thumbnail appears in the lower-left corner instead, tap it and drag the handles.
- Open Instagram, tap Create at the top (or swipe right in your Feed) and scroll to Story.
- Swipe up to open your camera roll and pick the screenshot.
- Add text or a sticker if you like, then tap Your Story in the bottom left.
2. Post a photo with your stats on it
A photo from the trail or the finish line usually says more than a screenshot. Instagram’s own editor lets you type your numbers on top.
- Note the stats you want to show from the workout in the Fitness app, such as distance, time and pace.
- In Instagram, tap Create, scroll to Story, and swipe up to pick your photo.
- Tap Text and type the numbers, for example “10.2 km · 52:14 · 5:07 /km”. Pinch to resize, drag to place.
- Tap Your Story.
This works for any workout, but you get no route map, and the layout is up to you, and typing the numbers by hand on the go invites typos.
3. Share a designed workout card with Weave
Weave is an iPhone app that turns the workouts in Apple Health into Instagram-ready cards: route map, distance, time, pace and heart rate laid out in a template, sized for a Story or the feed. It reads your workouts on your iPhone, with no account and no Strava. Weave is in beta; join the beta to try it.
- Open Weave and allow it to read your workouts from Apple Health.
- Tap a workout, then tap Create Card.
- Pick a template. Clean, Bold and Lift (made for strength sessions) are free; Route First and Recap come with Weave Pro.
- Choose a theme, which stats to show, and the format: 9:16 Story or 1:1 Square for the feed.
- Tap Export, then Share and choose Instagram in the share sheet. Or tap Save to Photos and pick the card from your camera roll, as in the first method.
Want your own photo in the background? Tap Share as Sticker instead. Weave exports the card’s route and stats as a PNG with a transparent background, made to be layered over your own photo or video. How the transparency comes through depends on the app you send it to.
Free cards carry a small Weave watermark. Weave Pro is a one-time purchase that removes it and unlocks the Pro templates, vector routes and merging several workouts into one card. Route cards with a map load the map for your route’s area from Apple Maps; your workout data never goes to us.
Which way to share your Apple Watch workout on Instagram?
- Screenshot: fastest, free, and shows exactly what Fitness shows, phone interface and all.
- Photo with text: the most personal, but you lay out the numbers yourself.
- Weave card or sticker: a clean, consistent design with your route and stats, ready for a Story or the feed in a few taps.
